Spring 2020 Conference

Dear Georgia GMIS Members:

On behalf of the Georgia GMIS Board of Directors, we are announcing the official reschedule dates for the 2020 Spring Conference in Athens, GA.  Working with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government and the Graduate Hotel we have rescheduled this conference to June 14 – 18, 2020.

Carl Vinson will transfer all current registrations to the new conference dates.  Individuals who have already registered should receive an Enrollment Confirmation reflecting the new dates.  The Graduate Hotel room reservations for the May dates will be cancelled and you will need to make new reservations.  Updated hotel block information is forthcoming.

We would like to thank the Carl Vinson Institute of Government and the Graduate Hotel for working with the GA GMIS Board on making these arrangements.  We would like to thank our sponsors for being able to adjust to the conference date changes.  And we would like to thank the membership for their patience and understanding.

We will continue to monitor and follow the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control, and the leadership of the State and Federal Government.  Please monitor the GMIS website for updated information.

The Georgia GMIS Board of Directors invites you to attend the 2020 Spring Conference. The theme will be “Cyber Wars”, in recognition of the roles we are shifting towards. Today, Technology Professionals are no longer just looking for new solutions to satisfy growing business needs. We are also facing a battle to protect our agencies from hostile forces looking for any opening to invade. The landscape is constantly broadening and changing. There are more diverse technology options being implemented to support our business needs. We are asked to protect our organization’s investments and support their goals in this new era. Join us as we explore different strategies for the future. The conference starts on Monday, June 14, ending Thursday, June 18, 2020. The Geek Trak will begin on Sunday, June 14. It is located at The Graduate in Athens, GA.

The LGCIO (Local Government Chief Information Officer) program’s leadership curriculum will be Leading in a Political Environment. Attendees will better understand the demands and external drivers which holds our public leaders accountable. On Tuesday the focus will be on Incident Response & Preparedness as it relates to security, and Wednesday will look at Real World IT Incidents.

Geek Trak is welcoming back Dederick Scott as our trainer. He has lined up a deeper dive into some of the topics covered in the Fall 2019, focusing on a defensive network environment.

We would like to show appreciation for the continued support of our sponsors. Their participation make these conferences a continued success. Their products, services, and knowledge keeps our agencies on the move towards the future.

May the 4th be with you. We look forward to seeing you in Athens!

Larry J Hobbs Jr.
President, Georgia GMIS
